Salt Crystal Lamps

The *in-thing* nowadays..i've also caught with this trend..blame it on Janice *ha!ha!* she got it cheap for me...asked around earlier and they do cost a bomb...well i now have 2 of them, 1 at home in the bedroom and the other in office. The air in this office is a bit..... (let just say i need this for myself :-) ) the time I was here (FYI, that's 9 months), I was sick more than the past 2 years combined *sigh*, so had to something about it...

Some info on salt crystal lamps, they help improve the quality of the air by producing negative ions (thanks to NWChong I was introduced to this negative ions thingy - Titan minus ION wrist bands aka the golfing *in-thing*).

Most people are aware of the health benefits of negative ions and know that they are essential for our health and well being. Our environment has far more sources of positive ions than in the past, creating an electrical imbalance in the air. Electrical and electronic appliances such as heating and cooling systems, computers, transmitters, televisions and mobile phones all produce positive ions which are are detrimental to our health, and positive ions also result from exhaust fumes and cigarette smoke.

It also shows that salt crystal lamps can increase the negative ion count by up to 300%. Negative Ions are created naturally by wind, sunlight, surf, waterfalls and rainstorms. Generally, a negative ion is an electronically charged molecule made up of oxygen. A positive ion in the air is a molecule that has lost its electrons through the process of air pollution. In ordinary, fresh country air we find up to 4000 negative ions per cubic centimetre and near strong surf or close to a waterfall up to 10.000 negative ions can be found. This can decrease to less than 100 in major cities during the rush hour!

And happened to stumble on a website that says Ionised air also substantially reduces the number of airborne bacteria indoors. Dr. Albert Krueger of University of California, a leading microbiologist and experimental pathologist found that even a very small quantity of negative ions could kill bacteria. hmmm..so keeping my fingers crossed on this...

Salt crystal lamps are ideal for daily use near televisions and computers, around smokers, in offices with air-conditioning, and everywhere else where you want to restore or preserve the natural air quality.

So I have it next to my notebook in the office..kiasu and kiasi mah!
